Yardbird Suite Virtual Series – Joshua Banks
September 22 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Joshua Banks, piano
Born and raised west of Edmonton in the smaller city of Spruce Grove, Joshua Banks’ first formal exposure to playing music was the standard introduction for many – 6th grade band class, where he first began playing the Oboe. However, while the Oboe was his first instrument, Josh was always enamored with the Piano and would eventually insist on being put in Classical lessons. Although some may consider age 12 to be a late start to begin music training, the new pianist was instantly charmed with the art form and began to motor away to hours of practice a day, obsessed with making up for those lost years.
Currently working towards obtaining his ARCT with the RCM and as well as obtaining scholarships from the Parkland Music Festival, Josh has since moved towards a fairly recent interest in learning Jazz, studying Piano Performance at MacEwan University in their Bachelor in Jazz & Contemporary Music program, where he has had the opportunity to perform with the MacEwan Big Band and continues to hone his skills.
In the spirit of our incredible collective effort to flatten the curve, your Yardbird Suite, Edmonton’s premiere jazz venue since 1957, is presenting a series of live online performances for the Yardbird Suite Virtual Series.
We broadcast live from the Yardbird Suite. There are no audiences other than the performers and audio technician who are physically distant, do not share the same equipment, nor come into contact with each other. Every effort has been made to comply with AHS safety guidelines.
Curated by Edmonton musician Stephanie Urquhart, the all-Edmonton lineup features a variety of solos, duets, and instruments. Performances will run Fridays & Saturdays 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
