Tyler Hornby is one of Canada’s most innovative and sought-after drummers. His list of collaborators is wide and wealthy, including Bob Mintzer, Ingrid Jensen, Wycliffe Gordon, Alain Caron, Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell, James Carter, Tommy Banks, PJ Perry, Maciek Grzywacz (with a 2007 Polish Music Award nomination for their collaboration), Phil Dwyer, Mike Murley, and Kirk MacDonald, amongst many others.
Hornby has performed at festivals, clubs and concerts in North America, South America and Europe, and has appeared on more than fifty recordings. He was nominated for the Galaxie Rising Star Award of Radio Canada & General Motors Grand Jazz Award at Festival International de Jazz de Montreal in 2009, is a multi-time nominee for a Western Canada Music Award, and was member of Al Muirhead’s Juno-nominated group on “It’s About Time”.
He has also established a close connection with jazz musicians in Poland including Piotr Lemanczyk with whom he will be performing again at the Yardbird Suite.
Piotr Lemanczyk is one of Europe’s leading bass players and composers. He is a very creative musician and leader of numerous projects with major European and North American jazz musicians.
Piotr has worked with Jerry Bergonzi, Tim Hagans, Dave Kikoski, Seamus Blake, Clarence Penn, and trumpeter Avishai Cohen. His Polish colleagues include Jacek Kochan, Maciej Sikala, and Jaroslaw Smietana.
As a leader, Lemanczyk has recorded several great CDs including “Follow the Soul”, “Freep”, “Village Time”, and “Baltic Dance”.
Joining Hornby and Lemanczyk for this Yardbird Suite concert will be saxophonist Keith O’Rourke from Calgary.
