Award winning guitarist Ken Hamm is one of Canada’s foremost interpreters of traditional roots and blues music. He has won a wide following for his stellar guitar work, both intricate fingerstyle and driving slide, as well as for his original material.
His playing is influenced by early blues recordings and a love of old-timey music, resulting in a varied repertoire of original and traditional songs ranging from hard edge steel guitar blues to softer dobro and banjo pieces. His main influences include Ry Cooder, Mississippi John Hurt, John Fahey and John Hartford.
A Juno award in 1991 for Best Roots and Traditional Album was followed by the Great Canadian Blues Award in 2010. Ken has built an international reputation through extensive touring in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe, performing in venues ranging from house concerts to concert halls to major festivals. He has recorded nine CDs to date, his most recent being “Mokomon”, released in 2017.
“…his exceptional musical gift for picking guitar and plumbing the tradition has turned him into one of Canada’s most entertaining experts in the field of southern delta blues. ” – Roger Levesque, Edmonton Journal
“… This is one of the hands-down best acoustic guitar recordings I have heard in a long, long time. Hamm takes the listener on a delightful journey that encompasses almost every emotion imaginable through his expert playing. He’s billed as an acoustic country blues player but his repertoire crosses over into folk and bluegrass and beyond.” – Eric Thom, Penguin NewsBUY YOUR TICKETS AT TIX ON THE SQUARE
